Welcome

Welcome to fifth grade!  My name is Mrs. Prater and I am looking forward to meeting each of you!  I am a graduate of Florida State University (Go NOLES) and this will be my 24th year teaching.  The first six were spent in Florida and the last 17 have been right here at John B Dey.  My husband teaches in Virginia Beach as well and we have one son who is in 9th grade.

I am THRILLED to be teaming with Mr. Cress again this year and our primary form of communication with parents will be through Seesaw (of course you can always email.)  I will post updates, photos of the kids in action, upcoming test/projects, etc.  You will not want to miss out on this important information.  (Planners will not be provided to students this year so this will be the best way for your to know what's going on in the classroom.)

We look forward to seeing you at "Meet and Greet/Open House" on Thursday, September 1 from 11:00-11:45. 

In the fall, Mr. Cress and I will reach out about holding conferences in person or virtually through Google Meet if you prefer and we will offer times to meet and answer any questions you may have.

Once a month I will be sending home a Scholastic book order.   You may order online or by sending in a check payable to Scholastic Inc.  The online code for ordering is FJYMD.
